New institute for disaster resilience

The federal government has launched a new institute to strengthen responses to emergencies and natural disasters.
The Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience, to be based in Melbourne, will pool resources and knowledge from the Australasian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council, the Australian Red Cross, the Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre and the Attorney-General's department.
Justice Minister Michael Keenan on Wednesday said the institute would strengthen emergency management capabilities and build Australian communities' resilience to disasters.
