Plans for high-rise park in Brisbane CBD hope to imitate the Big Apple

A new high-rise park in Brisbane's CBD is set to echo the greenspace movement pioneered by designers in New York.

Striking design images reveal a new look for Hobbs Park, located on the fourth floor of a new office tower at 480 Queens Street in Brisbane, which will feature large open spaces offering views of landmarks and the cityscape, all while nestled between skyscrapers.

“Sandstone floors, and lots and lots of lush greenery, to the point that you’ll actually forget you’re up, well elevated off the street,” construction and investment firm Grocon’s Carolyn Viney said.

It is hoped the “fresh urban greenspace” will attract the same attention generated by the parks made famous by the Big Apple.

“It’s about creativity, it’s a new-world city design,” Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said.

Named after Dr William Hobbs, who built Queensland’s first government house, the park is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

“These are the sort of in between spaces that I think we can be known for,” architect Richard Kirk said.
