New dive boat to revolutionise shark tourism industry

It’s not for the faint-hearted but an Adelaide tourism operator is taking shark spotting to another level.

Port Lincoln’s Adventure Bay Charters has launched a world-first glass bottom viewing pod allowing thrill seekers to get up close to great whites without getting wet.

“This is probably the biggest change in the shark tourism industry in 25 years,” tour operator Matt Waller said.

In what's believed to be a world first, the Shark Warrior is fitted with a specially build glass viewing area allowing passengers to get up close and personal with those predators of the deep.

“I think it’ll actually appeal to a greater audience than we’ve had currently,” Mr Waller said.

The six-seater glass pod is lowered once the charter reaches shark infested waters and you simply climb down a ladder to get inside.

“The fear of a great white shark is pretty much right up there for most people,” Mr Waller said.

“This allows people to introduce to that concept at a step that hadn’t previously been there.”

The Shark Warrior is currently docked at Glenelg, with tours to leave from Port Lincoln next month.
