A US chat show host has fallen victim to a perfectly executed April Fools' prank on his own program.

As James Corden, who is only in his second week as host of The Late Late Show, prepares to welcome news anchor Katie Couric she suddenly takes a violent tumble down the stairs.

A swearing Corden immediately rushes over where the 58-year-old is slumped at the bottom of the stairs.
