New $1b housing fund clears parliament

A $1 billion federal government fund will be established in a bid to speed up the supply of new housing.

Legislation passed parliament on Thursday to create the kitty, which will finance critical housing-related infrastructure to inject more affordable dwellings into the market.

Under the move, the National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation's board will include at least one member with a background in social or affordable housing.
