Nervy reaction causes wild highway crash in Western Sydney

A nervous P-plate driver's panicked reaction to almost merging into another vehicle has turned what could have been a near-miss into a wild highway crash in Sydney.

Video of the incident on the M5 at Casula yesterday, and shared on the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page, shows a blue Volkswagen and a sliver Toyota both beginning to merge into the same lane on the 100km/h highway.

But before the cars collide the drivers appear to realise.

The VW driver taps the brakes and pulls away but the driver of the Toyota has a reaction far less subtle.

The Toyota driver yanks the wheel away from the VW and loses control of the car, heading for a fence dividing the highway before dramatically overcorrecting and shooting back across towards the VW.

The Toyota crashes into the side of the VW and both battered vehicles stop on the side of the road.

It is unclear if any of the drivers were injured or charged over the crash.
