Neighbours have spoken of the tragic scene on the NSW Central Coast today where a man was shot dead by police during an alleged domestic violence incident.

The 45-year-old was shot once in the chest after police attended the property at 8.30am on Bangalow Road, Ettalong Beach.

Neighbour Shailan Elliott said he saw the scene unfold.

“I only saw the police enter his premises, then he came out with a knife and went straight towards them, and one cop shot him,” he said.

Police have not commented on whether tasers were used first, but have said the officers involved are very experienced.

Another neighbour said police were given no time to issue a warning before the man allegedly attacked them.

In the lead-up to the event, locals said, the man was heard yelling at his partner and her teenage daughter.

A critical incident investigation has been established to look into the circumstances of the shooting.
