NDIS worker database passes first hurdle

A national database for workers in the National Disability Insurance Scheme is a step closer after draft laws passed the first hurdle of parliament.

The database will include information about clearance decisions, including whether workers have applied for a screening check, the status of the check and if they were issued a security clearance.

"It's an important measure to ensure people with disability have access to quality and safe supports and services under the NDIS, and are not at risk of harm from people who work closely with them," government minister David Coleman said as the bill passed the lower house on Tuesday.
