NDIS apologises to tumour mum Kelli

The NDIS has apologised to a terminally ill woman who has been unable to return home to her children.

After A Current Affair broadcast Kelli O'Brien's sad story last night, viewers responded by sending so many messages to Social Services Minister Dan Tehan that his computer crashed.

Kelli has battled brain cancer for more than a decade.

More than a quarter of her brain has been removed by renowned surgeon Charlie Teo.

But now, there is nothing more that can be done for Kelli, and she wants to spend whatever time remains to her with her children Ryan, 18, and Meg, 16.

However, she requires a carer, and that is where the trouble has come from.

Kelli's extended family has battled for months to receive some assistance from the NDIS, so far without success.

However, A Current Affair can now reveal the government body has issued an apology to Kelli.

The family has said they are hopeful of "good news" by the end of the week.
