Nationals MP gets deputy speaker job

Nationals MP Mark Coulton has been named deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Mr Coulton beat Labor's Rob Mitchell following a ballot for the spot on Tuesday.

Mr Mitchell becomes the second deputy.

Labor senator Sue Lines became the third woman to hold the role of deputy president of the Senate.
