Cold front to bring huge surf and damaging winds to WA

A trough and strong cold front are generating powerful winds, showers, storms and large waves across parts of Western Australia.

The front, which has been impacting the state for the last five days, will move across the south parts of the South West Land Division today bringing squally showers to much of the area.

Wind gusts of up to 100 kilometres per hour that could cause damage to homes are forecast over the warning area.

Conditions should ease by late Friday morning.

Tides will be higher than expected between Geraldton and Esperance.

Significant beach erosion is expected between Shark Bay and Albany.

Perth will be cloudy with an almost 100 per cent chance of showers. There is also a chance of a thunderstorm late this afternoon and evening with possible small hail.

Troughs are triggering a few showers in parts of South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania.

A high in the east is keeping conditions calm, leading to a frosty morning in many areas.

A dry but cool day is expected for most of NSW with sun and a minimum of 5C in Sydney today.
