National festive season road toll climbs to 27 deaths in 12 days

Twenty-seven people have died on Australian roads during the festive season between December 23 and January 3.

Yesterday morning a 69-year-old man died after rolling his car in Goulburn, taking the NSW holiday season road toll to seven.

His 16-year-old passenger was uninjured, authorities blaming a "medical episode" for the crash.

Queensland also recorded seven deaths during the same period, however only four counted towards official figures as the other three involved a medical condition or deliberate or suspicious act.

A pedestrian and motorcyclist were the two most recent fatalities in two separate incidents in Queensland.

A 27-year-old woman died after she was hit by a car on the Bruce Highway at Morayfield at 8.50pm on Saturday.

The driver was uninjured and police are investigating.

Earlier that evening a 25-year-old motorcyclist died after losing control of his bike and crashing into a tree at Herberton.

Seven people have died on South Australian roads over the festive season, one of which was a 13-year-old boy from Aldinga Beach who died in a two-car collision at Port Clinton on December 30.

In Victoria four people have died, including a man who died at the scene after crashing his silver Proton sedan into a median strip on the Monash Freeway at about 1.30am on Boxing Day.

Three people have also died on WA roads, two have died on Tasmanian roads, while the NT and the ACT remained fatality free.
