The controlled demolition of a house on Sydney’s northern beaches is underway after rain from heavy storms eroded the soil underneath.

Prior to the heavy rain which battered NSW earlier this week, the vacant home was already set to be demolished however the weather damage has forced authorities to pull down the home after public safety concerns.

Four neighbouring families have been evacuated for the past few days while engineers and NSW Fire & Rescue crews work on safely dismantling the home.

Today, they directed a high-pressure hose towards the foundation, to erode it enough to allow the house to collapse.

Firefighters then doused the collapsed building with water to control the dust cloud.

Neighbours gathered around to watch the demolition, and will soon be advised when they can return to their homes.
