A magistrate has suppressed the previously published name of the man accused of murdering a 10-year-old girl snatched from her Adelaide bed 30 years ago.

The 65-year-old man was arrested last November and charged with murdering Louise Bell, whose body has never been found.

Police allege he broke into the girl's bedroom in her suburban Hackham West home in January 1983.

In the Adelaide magistrates court on Tuesday, the man's lawyer applied for his name, image and other details to be suppressed.

Magistrate Bob Harrap said the horse had already bolted from the paddock and rejected the application.

But he imposed a temporary suppression to enable the lawyer to appeal his decision within 72 hours.

The murder charge was adjourned to May 2.
