Melbourne hospital receives thank you letter written by mystery 10-year-old

The Northern Hospital in Melbourne is on the hunt for the author of a kind letter written by one of its young patients.

Decorated with stickers and colourful drawings, the letter was sent anonymously to the Epping hospital in an envelope full of lollies.

"To all the doctors, nurses, ambulance staff and cleaners at The Northern Hospital, I am so glad that there are people like you in the world," it said.

Northern Health CEO Janet Compton said it is a "beautiful letter" and that they are keen to know the author so they can be thanked.

"Last week it came to my attention ... I made a decision we were going to find the writer," she told TODAY.

"It's brought a sense of joy to the hospital."

The only clues given in the letter are that the author is 10 years old and lives in Coolaroo, north of Melbourne.

"We're sure someone out there knows about this, someone from a school or the family know about this letter, and hopefully they'll come and find us so we can thank the writer," she said.

Host Lisa Wilkinson asked Ms Compton what she would like to tell the writer if they were watching.

"Thank you so much for taking the time to write to us, we really appreciate that you appreciate us, it gives us a sense of warmth and pleasure," she said.

"To all the doctors, nurses, ambulance staff and cleaners at The Northern Hospital, I am so glad that there are people like you in the world, and hospitals in the world.

I was born at this hospital in 2004. Hospitals are clean, tidy and smell nice, and is a safe and warm environment.

Thank you for always and forever being there for us. I am 10 years now, I live in Coolaroo, Broadmeadows."
