Mysterious Australian group The Avalanches finally set to return to the stage

Much-loved Australian electronic group The Avalanches have announced their return to the stage with a trio of festival appearances – but only one is to take place in their homeland.

The Melbourne band, famed for their 2000 debut, Since I Left You, have been confirmed to play Primavera Sound in Barcelona, London’s Field Day Festival and Splendour in the Grass in Byron Bay, Australia this June.

Fans went into overdrive yesterday when the outfit updated their social media channels with a mysterious image of a small embroidered gold butterfly in front of a black background.

The move lead many to speculate that the band would soon announce their long-awaited follow-up album.

However, the band and its label Modular Records have been notably tight-lipped on that front.

In the years since the critically acclaimed Since I Left You’s release, the group has shrunk from a six-piece to a smaller ensemble.

Robbie Chater, Tony Di Blasi, James De La Cruz and another member dubbed “Mutual Attraction” will play the three gigs.

The band has played intermittent live shows and DJ sets in the 16 years since the band’s release.

Among the headliners joining The Avalanches at Splendour in the Grass are New York band The Stokes, UK legends The Cure, and locals Flume and Courtney Barnett.
