Muslims target of hateful vandalism in Sydney’s south-west

Residents in Sydney’s south-west fear Muslims have been targeted after two stores were attacked and a car set alight.

Hateful words have been scrawled on the walls of two suburban shops in Hammondville, both run by Muslims.

Sam Eid, the owner of Flaming Skewers, found the shocking graffiti when he turned up to open his store this morning.

“Shouldn’t be happening, shouldn’t be happening at all, mate. This is nothing to do with religion,” Mr Eid said.

Not only had the slurs been sprayed on the wall but the offenders had also attempted to torch the building.

A pizza store owner’s car was also firebombed outside his home a few blocks away.

The car’s alarm woke the man and his wife.

They saw it alight and feared it would explode right outside their children’s bedroom.

Three children, aged 10, eight and three were asleep in the front room at the time.

Forensic police spent much of today examining the scene and are confident they will catch those responsible.
