The line between innovation and blasphemy varies from person to person, but one RSL is pushing into the future and punting on a major meat-tray revolution.

Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL in Sydney has thrown in with Australian Mushrooms to launch a "flexitarian" version of the iconic plastic-wrapped prize.

Alongside staples like snags and rissoles, winners can look forward to a batch of locally-grown portobello, button, flat and cup mushrooms when they wave their winning ticket.

And 43 per cent of respondents said they wanted more variety in their meat trays - with 33 per cent pushing for a "flexitarian" of the classic raffle prize.

Mushroom grower Chris Tolson said the new-look tray was a "win-win" for hungry RSL-goers.

"Not only do they get a fantastic prize – they also get a prize that's packed full of flavour and the healthy benefits of Australian mushrooms," he said.

Australian Mushrooms is now looking to roll out the new trays nationwide, launching a toolkit to help RSLs create their own version, with local institutions in Queensland and Victoria taking up the call.

And they're raffling off Mushie Meat Trays to local community groups - if there's one you think deserving, tag them under the Mushie Meat Trays launch post on Australian Mushrooms' Instagram page.
