Murray-Darling buyback cap in parliament

Draft laws capping water buybacks under the Murray-Darling Basin Plan have finally been delivered to federal parliament.

More than two years after promising to restrict buybacks to 1500 gigalitres, the government introduced the legislated cap to the lower house on Thursday.

The measure would have enduring benefits for both the environment and rural and irrigation communities, parliamentary secretary Bob Baldwin told the lower house.
