Murdered homeless man had $30,000 in his bank account

A homeless man found murdered under a bridge in the NSW Central West had $70 in his wallet and more than $30,000 in his bank account.

Reginald Mullaly, 69, was found dead under Denison Bridge in Bathurst on September 20 last year after being stabbed 11 times.

His body was discovered by children playing in the area.

"It's a cowardly attack on a vulnerable member of the community," Detective Senior Constable Adrian Graham told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Police believe the fact he had so much money in his bank account despite living as a vagrant may have been a factor in his death.

He inherited a large sum of money after his mother's death but only spent his money on pies, cans from the bottle shop and bread to feed the ducks.

He was found clutching a tissue to a wound on his head, with the 11 stab wounds found under his six layers of clothing.

Mullaly was last seen on the afternoon of Thursday September 17.
