UPDATE: murdered dad's wife appeals for public assistance

The wife of murdered Sydney dad John Gasovski, whose body was dumped in the NSW Southern Highlands after being shot execution-style, has made a tearful appeal for anyone with any information to come forward, saying her husband “had a great heart”.

Homicide detectives from Strike force Berek are seeking information to piece together Mr Gasovski’s final movements between when he told his family he was leaving for Canberra for work on Monday June 9 and when his body was found by park rangers off Jamberoo Mountain Road, Budderoo in the Southern Highlands.

A post mortem examination found the 48-year-old had been killed by a single gunshot to the head.

His wife Jackie today appealed for anyone with any information to come forward.

“I stand before you today as a wife that has lost a husband and a mother of four young children who have lost their father,” she said.

“He was a man with a great heart but someone decided to take him away from us forever.

“I know that the police can’t bring John back – but they can arrest the person or people responsible and stop this from happening to another family.”

The casual CCTV installer was last seen about 4.40pm on Monday, June 9 when he left his Arncliffe home, telling his family he was heading to Canberra for work and would be back home the following night. By Thursday Mr Gasovski had still not returned home, prompting his worried family to contact police.

Three days later police were called to Jamberoo Mountain Road, Budderoo - 100 kilometres from Arncliffe and 200 kilometres from Canberra - after a park ranger stumbled across his body.

Police have searched the area around the site where Mr Gasovski was found and believe it is the murder site.

Police have not ruled out the prospect that the father of four had arranged a meeting or had met someone at a service station in Pheasents Nest and are appealing to anyone who may have seen him or his grey Hyundai iLoad van (NSW registration – BJQ82K).

The vehicle was spotted about 7.30pm at a service station on the corner of the Hume Highway and Sallys Corner Road, Suttons Forest and later at a service station in Pheasants Nest.

The Commander of the Homicide Squad, Detective Superintendent Mick Willing, said police are particularly keen for any motorists who passed through Pheasants Nest, Suttons Forest, Jamberoo and other parts of southern NSW in the days between Monday 9 June and Monday 23 June 2014.

“We know a lot of people have recording devices, GoPros in their cars,” he said.

“We want to hear from anyone who may have seen Mr Gasovski or his grey van in Pheasants Nest, Suttons Forest or any other part of southern NSW last month.

“We are spreading the net far and wide, and working around the clock to get to the bottom of this case but we do need the public’s assistance.

“Please remember, Mr Gasovski had a loving wife and four children. They are naturally devastated by what has happened, and deserve some form of closure.”
