Murder accused sent texts to each other as man lay dying: court

Text messages sent between two men while their alleged victim lay dying from stab wounds have been read to a Queensland court.

Ashley James Huston, 25, and Brian Stewart Krezic, 23, asked each other if they were okay in the messages and discussed what had just allegedly happened.

The first text was sent at 2.45am in June 2013, 15 minutes before drug dealer Brodie Smith was declared dead on a petrol station driveway.

In the text, Krezic asked Huston: “Did you get home safe bro?”

Huston replied: “yeah sweet”

Krezic: “U all good your nerves calmed down?”

Huston: “Nah geez I really wish you never did that”

Krezic: “too late for that now bro”

Huston: “yeah but it’s ¬insane what you did”

Krezic: “oh well”

Mr Smith died of stab wounds to the heart and head.

Prosecutors say a woman who knew both of the accused, Angela Sue Moutsatsos, arranged the meeting between them to buy the drug ice from Mr Smith.

Moutsatsos has pleaded guilty to manslaughter for her role in the killing.

Further text messages between Krezic and Huston read to the court allegedly show their reaction when they found out Mr Smith had died.

Huston texted: “C--- has died”

Krezic: “What? For real”

Krezic had denied playing any role in the stabbing, telling police he was “down the coast” with his girlfriend.

Huston admitted killing Smith, but said it was in self-defence.
