A parliamentary human rights committee is concerned draft laws relating to drug and alcohol testing on commonwealth construction sites could impinge on privacy.

The committee has sought extra information on how workers will be tested for drugs and alcohol, finding the legislation does not specify the type of samples to be taken.

The bill also doesn't require the testing to be carried out in the least personally intrusive manner or specify a timeframe for the records to be destroyed, the committee found.
