MP tries to hand back NRL final tickets

To your average National Rugby League fan, being offered two free tickets to the grand-final would be like winning the lottery.

But not for Bob Baldwin.

The federal government frontbencher was emailed two tickets to the NRL grand final between the Rabbitohs and the Bulldogs.

He had not sought the tickets and had no idea of their value.

The top-priced "diamond" tickets for the showdown were $380, with "bronze" tickets priced at $80 for an adult.

Mr Baldwin's office tried to contact the NRL, who provided the tickets, in order to hand them back but received no response.

In his latest entry to his parliamentary pecuniary interest register, the MP said he gave the tickets to his son and a friend to attend.

When the pair got there no one approached them to ask who they were and according to Mr Baldwin "there were vacant seats all around them".

The MPs' interest register includes dozens of examples of the NRL providing match tickets to MPs from across the political divide.
