MP delegation to meet US security chiefs

Members of federal parliament's intelligence and security committee will visit Washington next week to meet key Trump administration officials.

Liberal MP Andrew Hastie will be joined on the trip by Labor senators Penny Wong and Jenny McAllister.

Their itinerary is expected to include meetings with security agencies as well as American lawmakers.

The Trump administration has made national security a priority, with Defence Secretary James Mattis and Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly the first cabinet-level appointees to be confirmed by the US Senate.
