MP backs US defence secretary candidate

A Labor MP and former Army lawyer has backed the man Donald Trump is considering appointing US defence secretary.
Mike Kelly served in Iraq alongside retired General James Mattis, who was in command of the 1st Marine Division at the time.
"General Mattis was quite a character. He said a lot of colourful things and his nickname was quite colourful, but I want to reassure people that this is someone who we can have confidence in," Mr Kelly told parliament on Wednesday.
