Move to new Adelaide hospital due to begin

The South Australian government will later this month start the six-week ramp-down process ahead of the move to the new Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The six-week period, which involves postponing some elective surgery and moving some patients from the existing RAH to other hospitals, will begin on July 24 ahead of the opening of the new hospital in early September.

A television commercial will begin screening from Sunday night as part of a community awareness program for the changes with doctors, nurses, and paramedics calling on South Australians to be patient as the move gets underway.

"South Australia's world-class new Royal Adelaide Hospital will open its doors to the public in less than two months, and this will be one of the iconic moments in our state's history," Health Minister Jack Snelling said on Sunday.

"It is absolutely critical that the huge logistical exercise of moving an entire hospital is carried out safely, that's why we've got some of the best minds in medicine and health care coordinating this massive job."
