Mounting calls for audit of govt projects

The Senate has called on the auditor-general to investigate commonwealth funding approvals for the Perth Freight Link and Sydney's WestConnex project.
The joint Greens and Labor motion, agreed to in the Senate on Wednesday, comes after the auditor-general found former prime minister Tony Abbott did not follow the usual process for approving funding for Victoria's East West Link.
Senior Labor figure Anthony Albanese in January asked the auditor-general to investigate the government's infrastructure program, following the collapse of the Perth Freight Link in court and a $7 billion cost blowout on the WestConnex project.
