Queensland driver allegedly pinned man to fence then set his truck on fire

A Queensland driver has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly drove into a man and pinned him to a fence as part of a multi-part attack.

The assault allegedly began at about midday yesterday when a 66-year-old man hit another man on the arm with an iron bar at Dempsey Street.

The 66-year-old then allegedly got into his car and drove onto the nature strip at the other man, who was forced to jump out of the way.

The driver allegedly then returned to the scene over an hour later and drove directly at the other man, who was standing on the nature strip.

The man was knocked onto the car bonnet and the driver then drove into a fence.

The driver allegedly then set fire to the victim's truck, which was parked in a neighbouring yard.

The victim, a 54-year-old Mornington man, was taken to Mount Isa Hospital with non-life-threatening leg and arm injuries.

The 66-year-old Winston man has been charged with one count of attempted murder, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed, arson and serious obstruct.

He will appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court tomorrow.

The cab of the man's Isuzu truck was destroyed by the fire.

The men are known to each other.
