Not cool: the impounded Esky. (Victoria Police)

He wasn't speeding and it's unclear if he was drink-driving but a Victorian man has been slapped with some hefty fines after taking to the road on a motorised Esky.

Highway Patrol officers intercepted the 29-year-old man riding the 49cc vehicle on the footpath at Rosebud West, on the Mornington Peninsula, just after 5pm (AEDT) yesterday.

After speaking to him they determined he did not have a licence to drive the Esky or any other vehicle.

He was issued two fines totalling $1476 and the esky was impounded for 30 days.
