Motorcyclist dies after hitting kangaroo on motorway in Sydney's west

A motorcyclist has died after hitting a kangaroo on a motorway in Sydney’s west.

The man was found by an off-duty police officer on the M4 motorway at Claremont Meadows, 10 kilometres east of Penrith, with emergency services called about 1.20am today.

Police believe he was pushed into a centre guard railing, near the Mamre Road off-ramp, on impact.

The rider died at the scene with the body of the kangaroo found nearby.

All westbound lanes of the M4 have been reopened following an earlier closure, with diversions off the motorway at Mamre Road lifted. 

There was no impact to citybound traffic.
