Mother with terminal cancer hopes to get married after winning $10k
A woman diagnosed with terminal bone cancer has been gifted with $10,000 as part of the TODAY Show’s Knock of Cash competition.
Mother-of-two Alicia, from Horsley Park in Sydney’s west, erupted into tears when weather presenter Stevie Jacobs turned up at her door this morning with the cash prize.
“Oh my God! … Oh my God!” she said.
This Sunday Alicia, 34, will be enjoying what could be her last Mother’s Day with her children and partner Michael. She hopes the cash prize will help her fulfil a longstanding dream.
“[Michael and I have] been together for 12 years and we’ve never had the money to get married,” she said.
“We were talking about this year, but it’s just so hard, we’re struggling, we’ve had to give our business up.”
Alicia was nominated for the competition by Debbie, her partner’s sister.
“She’s everything to everybody,” Alicia’s sister Tara said.
“She never gets anything back and she deserves so much, and I just want her to live forever and I’m not giving up on her. And this will just make her year and her life.”
Throughout this week the Knock of Cash competition will be giving away $50,000 to deserving mums, ahead of Mother’s Day this Sunday.
