Mother loses unborn baby after crash in regional Victoria

A pregnant woman has lost her unborn child and has serious injuries after a crash in regional Victoria.

The 31-year-old Ballarat North woman was driving on the Midland Highway in Bannockburn, south west of Melbourne, when a car turning on to the highway crashed into the side of her vehicle, about 4pm yesterday. 

She was taken by helicopter to hospital, where her 31-week-old unborn child died.

Two children in the backseat of the car, a 10-year-old boy and an eight-year-old girl, were not injured. 

The driver of the other car and his three passengers were also unharmed.

The death is the first on Victoria's roads over the Easter period and the fourth nationally.

Mooroobool Highway Patrol members are investigating the crash and any witnesses are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
