Man’s nose glued back together after vicious bashing in Victoria’s south-east

A man is recovering in hospital with serious facial injuries after a vicious unprovoked attack in Victoria’s south-east.

Mathew Lyons, 46, was repeatedly punched and kicked to the head while walking home from the Mid Valley Shopping Centre between 3pm and 4pm on New Year’s Eve.

Mr Lyons was approached by an unknown man between the Airlie Bank Road footbridge and Burnside Drive, before being attacked without warning.

“He just doesn’t look like himself,” Mr Lyon’s partner, Alison Werner told 9News.

“His eyes are pretty much glued shut by the bruising.

“There are cuts all over his face and they had to glue his nose together.”

The offender fled the scene and is described as Caucasian in appearance, 182cm tall with dark facial hair.

He was wearing a black baseball cap, white t-shirt, black shorts and carried a blue umbrella.
