Morrison rejects Labor super tax changes

Social Services Minister Scott Morrison has given the clearest indication yet the government will not accept a Labor proposal to tax the superannuation income of wealthy retirees.

"Receiving a government welfare payment is not the same as being able to keep your own money," he told reporters in Sydney as he announced planned changes to the aged pension.

"We will tighten up welfare ... by removing perceived entitlements ... but we will also retain incentive through the tax system for people who provide for themselves."
