Federal Budget 2019 could clash with election

Powered by

The Morrison Government hasn't yet decided on the date of next year's Budget that is complicated by impending Federal election.

The budget is normally delivered on the second Tuesday in May, but the election is due at the end of the month, meaning a clash of dates.

There's speculation the government intends to bring forward the budget, which would confirm a May election, and not any earlier.

Finance Minister Mathias Cormann this morning confirmed no date had been set for the Budget.

"That will be arrived at in due course," Mr Cormann said, admitting difficulties with the election timing.

But he wouldn't confirm, or deny, an earlier budget date.
