Moreton Bay family loses everything in unit fire a week before Christmas

A family has lost all their possessions in a unit fire six days before Christmas, but escaped with their lives due to a neighbour’s swift actions.

The fire broke out on the ground floor of the Kallangur unit, north of Brisbane, late last night.

A neighbour alerted the family to the blaze and helped them out of their home before trying to extinguish the fire himself.

“I was probably five metres away and I was getting burnt, so she was pretty full on – flames were probably 10 to 12 feet high at that point,” neighbour Christopher Norman said.

Authorities will investigate the cause of the blaze.
