When Queenslander Samantha May decided to upgrade her home with a new pool and patio for summer, she tapped into a "buy now, pay later" deal.

Ms May's renovations were funded using an interest-free payment deal offered by company ASAP Home Improvements.

"There is no interest, ever … the amount that we give you is the amount you pay back," the company's Stacey Lee told 9NEWS.

ASAP Home Improvements is one of a growing number of Queensland companies offering interest-free payment plans through Certegy Ezi-Pay.

“Most people probably associate this with going down to the local department store and getting a fridge, not putting in a new kitchen,” Mitchell Watson, from financial comparison website Canstar, said.

But according to Glenn Kiddle from handyman business Hire A Hubby, this approach could be the difference between fixing or leaving a set of dangerous stairs.

"If it's a safety issue that needs to be dealt with then and there, it just gives (people) options," Mr Kiddle said.

Hire A Hubby offers up to $15,000 worth of work on an interest-free plan - from prepping homes for sale to urgent maintenance work.

The handyman business will organise all repayments, leaving customers with just a small deposit and minimal account fees.

"It does allow you to spread your repayments over a period of time, so that is definitely a pro," Canstar's Mr Watson said.

For Ms May, the renovation was also a worthwhile investment.

"It's added an extra space to our home and it has almost doubled the living area," she said.
