More vaccine incentives on offer as TGA reverses strict rules

The list of incentives encouraging Australians to get fully vaccinated against coronavirus is growing, with free desserts now on offer alongside travel vouchers, complimentary beers, phone credits and toll-free travel on roads to name a few.

More offers are likely to be announced after the Therapeutic Goods Administration changed their stance on the NRL's decision to issue 3000 complimentary finals tickets to fully vaccinated Queenslanders.

A row erupted yesterday after the TGA said the NRL finals series tickets for this weekend's games wouldn't be honoured as the offer went against the rules on what was appropriate.

The TGA — which regulates the marketing and advertising of medical products — issued advice that the promotion was against Australian guidelines.

The decision had footy fans up in arms and Queensland Health Minister Yvette D'Ath labelled the TGA advice as "bureaucracy gone mad", urging them to reconsider.

Today the TGA backflipped on the NRL announcement and confirmed "under the 2021 permission, any party can offer valuable consideration (cash or other rewards) to people who have been partly or fully vaccinated under the Government's national COVID-19 vaccination program, subject to certain conditions".

For close to a year different companies have been making offers to encourage more people to get vaccinated.

Certain beer brands have offered free slabs at bottle shops, countless pubs are offering a pint once they reopen and even the likes of Krispy Kreme and Hungry Jacks are offering free food to those who prove they have received both doses of the coronavirus vaccine.

Qantas is offering discounted travel vouchers, and those eligible also go in the running to win one of 10 free-for-a-year travel passes once international borders reopen.

Telstra is offering double-jabbed customers 2500 Telstra Plus points and placing those eligible in a draw to win $3500 in phone credit.

Transurban is offering a year's worth of free tolls and giving vaccinated motorists the chance to win one of two Hyundai Kona's.

Today, Uber Eats announced they are offering free dessert vouchers to the first Sydney Local Government Area (LGA) of concern to reach its 80 per cent full vaccination target.

The food delivery giant's "get vaxxed for snacks" offer is the latest incentive to encourage people to come forward and get the jab.

"For the first LGA to reach the 80 per cent double-vax target, those residing in the relevant suburbs in that LGA will be able to get up to $20 off an order (excluding fees) from their favourite dessert store via Uber Eats (Delivery Fee and Service Fee apply)."

The incentive is aimed at Bayside, Blacktown, Burwood, Campbelltown, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cumberland, Fairfield, Georges River, Liverpool, Parramatta, Strathfield and Penrith LGAs in particular and will be available for three days across the weekend after the target is reached.
