Morcombe accused murder trial to start

The trial of a man accused of killing Queensland schoolboy Daniel Morcombe is set to begin on Monday.

Brett Peter Cowan, 44, has been charged with murdering and indecently treating the Sunshine Coast 13-year-old, and interfering with his corpse.

Daniel disappeared while waiting for a bus at Woombye on the Sunshine Coast in 2003.

His remains were found in bushland at the Glass House Mountains, also in the Sunshine Coast's hinterland, in 2011.

Daniel's parents Bruce and Denise Morcombe are among approximately 200 witnesses who could be called to give evidence in the Supreme Court in Brisbane.

The trial is expected to run for up to six weeks.
