Police interview driver who left the scene after hitting young cyclist

Police have spoken to a driver who drove off after hitting a boy riding a bike in Melbourne’s south-east.

According to police, the 14-year-old boy was riding his bike along Station Street in Mooroolbark when he was struck by a white hatchback with a grey door about 5pm on Friday.

The 59-year-old Croydon man was interviewed at Mooroolbark police station today and was released pending further enquiries.

The driver initially stopped before getting back in his car and the boy returned home before reporting the incident to police.

He sustained minor injuries and attended hospital for treatment.

Police have released images and CCTV of a vehicle in the hope that someone may recognise it.
