Monstrous wild weather wave photographed by Sydney ferry worker

It looks like a scene from The Perfect Storm, but it's just a wild day on Sydney's Manly Ferry.

The photo, taken by Sydney Ferries deckhand Haig Gilchrist, captures the awesome power of mother nature hitting the vessel as it passes between the heads in Sydney Harbour.

Heavy rainfall, strong winds and lightning did not keep Mr Gilchrist from going to work on Saturday.

“Great day to be working,” he captioned his photograph on Instagram.

“Just a few boomers but they were big.”

His Instagram post has since been liked more than 1200 times.

The photograph shows a monstrous wave crashing along the side of the ferry, with a dark an ominous sky above the powerful wall of water.

A man can also be seen standing in a pool of water along the port side of the ship, dwarfed by the massive wave metres to his left.

Instagram users praised Mr Gilchrist’s photography skills, and many were also awed by the terrifying weather.

“Cripes, never been close to anything like that on ferry before!” one person wrote.

“Actual literal nightmare,” another wrote.

“Are you for real? This is like out of a movie. Wow! I would be hyperventilating if I was in this ferry,” a third chimed in.
