Miss Globe NZ told 'another Indian should have won'

A New Zealand beauty queen claims she was stripped of her Miss Globe title and told “another Indian girl should have won”.

Synthia Nath is seeking compensation and an apology after she was allegedly told her crowning was an “honest mistake”, the NZ Herald reports.

Pageant organisers Face of Beauty International allegedly told the 19-year-old she was mistaken for the real winner, fellow Indian contestant Loriza Latif, because the pair “look alike”.

Ms Nath claims the trouble started after she phoned the company to work out the details of her prize – a trip to Turkey for Miss Globe International next month.

But instead of receiving a prize, Ms Nath was “shocked” when organisers demanded she pay the $3000 to cover the trip.

When the teen said she didn’t have the money an organiser said there had been a mistake in announcing the winner.

“She said, ‘I missed up the name somehow and it was another Indian girl that should have won’,” Ms Nath told the NZ Herald.

Organisers then demanded she hand her sash and crown back before backing down and saying she could keep them, she claims.

“You can keep it and pretend you are still Miss Globe,” the organiser allegedly said.

The beauty queen believes her reputation has been tarnished by the mistake and is seeking compensation for the competition entry fee and $420 for 10 tickets she sold.
