Minister denies 'robo-debt' for Qld floods

Social Services Minister Anne Ruston has rejected claims Townsville flood victims have been targeted by the government's controversial robo-debt scheme.

The Centrelink system is a computer program that gathers data from government agencies to check on discrepancies and chase debts.

Queensland Labor senator Nita Green used Question Time to quiz the minister about reports a hiatus on robo-debt imposed after the devastating floods had been lifted.

"I can confirm there has been no debt recovery in the Townsville area," Senator Ruston told parliament on Tuesday.

She encouraged Townsville City Council Mayor Jenny Hill, who has been heavily critical of the social services department over the issue, to contact her with concerns.
