Miner death being investigated in WA

A man has died at a West Australian mine site while operating machinery.

The Department of Mines and Petroleum said the man was working at the Brightstar Mine near Laverton, in the Goldfields-Esperance region, on Monday morning when he had a fatal accident.

Mines Safety director Andrew Chaplyn believed the worker was fatally injured while operating machinery.

He said a mines safety inspector was travelling to the mine from Kalgoorlie to begin an investigation.

Two lead investigators are also on their way to Kalgoorlie and will join the inspector at the mine site on Tuesday, he said.

Police are also on site and are assisting with the investigation.
