Mine worker rescued from flooded crossing

A South Australian mine worker has been rescued after becoming stranded in a flooded creek crossing in Western Australia's Pilbara region.

The alarm was raised by the man's employer at about 11.40pm (WST) on Monday.

The man, 54, had attempted to drive across the crossing on the Harding River Dam Road at Roebourne, but high water levels left his vehicle stranded and the man was forced to sit on the bonnet, waiting for help.

He was rescued by State Emergency Service volunteers while his company's mine site Emergency Response Team remained at the scene to recover the vehicle.

Police said the incident served as a reminder to people driving in regional WA about the dangers of attempting river crossings where the road or track was submerged.

"In this instance the driver was lucky he was able to communicate with his employer, who was then able to raise the alarm with WA Police," they said.
