'Spider-man's' who saved dangling toddler starts fireman job

A brave migrant who scaled a Parisian apartment building to save a child has had his first day on the job as a fireman.

Mamoudou Gassama, 22, earned widespread praise and internet fame for heroically rescuing the toddler dangling from a balcony in May.

His fearless and swift actions were honoured by French President Emmanuel Macron, who soon after granted Mr Gassama citizenship. Paris Fire Brigade also took notice, offering him a job through their Twitter account.

The 22-year-old, originally from Mali, was among 24 new recruits induced into the brigade last Thursday.

Speaking to CNN, Mr Gassama said he was feeling “good, really good” about his future.

“I’ve seen things that really interest me.”

His family said they always thought Mr Gassama would have a career in soccer given his fitness.
