Toby Greene's estranged father sentenced to nine months in prison

The estranged father of Greater Western Sydney star Toby Greene has been sentenced to nine months behind bars after headbutting a police officer following this year's AFL Grand Final.

Michael Greene, 60, who the court heard has an underlying acquired brain injury, assaulted First Constable Rachel Miller on September 28 and was today sentenced by Magistrate David Starvaggi in Ringwood Magistrates Court.

Const. Miller told the court she suffered blurred vision and ringing ears after being headbutted by Greene.

"Myself and other emergency service workers do not go to work to become punching bags for other members of society," Const. Miller said.

"It's becoming a dangerous time to be a police officer in Victoria."

Greene has already spent 62 days in custody.

The magistrate also imposed a two-year alcohol exclusion order on Greene, banning him from entering any venue that serves alcohol.

The court heard Greene was found drunk inside the toilets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground after watching his son's team go down to Richmond during the AFL grand final.

He pleaded guilty to six charges relating to the incident, including assault, being drunk in public, resisting arrest and recklessly causing injury to Const Miller.

Greene also admitted to resisting arrest twice in July 2018, driving an unregistered vehicle and stealing more than $1000 worth of goods from the Cheesecake Shop, Kmart, Myer, Rebel Sport, Target and Woolworths.

Among the stolen items were two footballs and a slice of carrot cake worth $7.

Three charges of resisting an emergency worker, intentionally causing injury to an emergency worker and assaulting a police officer were dropped as part of the plea deal.

Magistrate David Starvaggi also imposed a two-year alcohol exclusion order banning Greene from licensed venues, which includes the MCG and other football grounds.
