Train chaos after major equipment fault

Powered by

Melbourne's rail line was sent into chaos this morning after an equipment fault caused major delays across the network.

Alamein, Belgrave, Glen Waverley, Hurstbridge, South Morang and Lilydale lines were all halted after an equipment fault between Flinders Street and Jolimont Station, Metro Trains said.

Commuters were crammed on station platforms and late for work after the technical issue.

While trains are now moving on the Hurstbridge and South Morang lines, passengers are still being warned to expect major delays.

Uber fares skyrocketed around the affected train stations, with commuters seeking alternate routes to work.

Metro Trains has advised commuters to allow extra travel time or consider different options like Yarra Trams.
