Meningococcal death in WA

An elderly West Australian has died from meningococcal disease, the Department of Health says.

There have now been 15 confirmed cases of the bacterial infection in the state this year, with 18 cases reported last year.

Those who came into close contact with the person have been offered antibiotics to minimise the chance the disease will be passed on to others.
